Diversity Experience
Mandan Middle School
During my Sophomore year of college, I worked at Mandan Middle School as an AVID tutor for Ms. Chelsey Gravseth's 7th grade class. During this diversity experience, I was able to watch as students held themselves and their peers accountable for their learning through the AVID model. I love the concept of allowing students to find answers on their own by asking questions that allow them to think critically.
Collegiate Writing Center at the University of Mary
During my Sophomore and Junior years of college, I was a writing center tutor at the University of Mary. In the writing center, I was able to work one-on-one with college students that were enrolled in a writing class. I helped students with a variety of things including how to structure a paper well, how to edit most effectively, and how to use MLA, APA, or Chicago formatting on their papers.
Servant Leadership
Faith Formation at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit
During my Junior and Senior years of college, I began volunteering at The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, ND, as a 7th grade catechist for their Faith Formation program. This was my first experience with 7th graders and I really enjoyed spending my Wednesday evenings with the students. This was also my first experience of teaching without being observed by another teacher, which brought on a unique set of challenges that I've had to work through.
